In an era of beat-machines and auto-tune, sample-packs and plug-ins, the authentic capture of a live performance has become a rarity. With our 3000 square foot historic ballroom and an eclectic collection of microphones and vintage instruments, Way Back Recording is in the pursuit of that magical energy of our favorite recordings.

We are located in historic downtown Roseburg, Oregon, in the same building as the former opera house, now home to Music in the Burg and The Green Heron.

Our main tracking room is a 3000 square foot ballroom, once home to Roseburg’s opera house. Its natural reverb is subtle and balanced, complimenting everything from quiet acoustic instruments to full bands with the same integrity.
Other tracking rooms throughout the studio include an acoustically dampened vocal booth and a super-reverberating stairwell with the ability to record throughout the building.
Way Back Recording touts and extensive collection of microphones running into a 32 channel Soundcraft SI Impact console.
We are a hybrid studio with a small (but growing) collection of the in-the-box plugins and outboard gear, and open-minded engineers who prioritize the artist’s vision and intent.

Way Back Snap Sessions puts musicians in the hot seat with one hour of professional audio and video recording. The goal is simple: to capture the essence of a live performance, warts and all, in a studio environment, and to quickly put those videos back in the hands of the artist for their own promotion. Snap Sessions are Way Back Recording's moving Polaroid of the local and regional scene.
